Relaxed Performances
The JADC is a fully-inclusive club that aims to share its love for all things theatrical with the whole island!
As part of this, we are putting on relaxed performances of some of our shows so that anyone, regardless of sensory requirements or other additional needs, can join us on the stage and in the auditorium!
What is a relaxed performance?
A relaxed performance is a theatre production that welcomes individuals with sensory needs, including people on the autism spectrum, as well as first-time theatregoers and young children.
What does it look like?
Environmental adjustments to create a friendly, supportive environment, as well as alterations to the performance, include:
-
The house lights will remain dimmed during the performance, rather than completely off
-
The intensity of lighting and sound effects will be reduced.
-
In louder performances there may be adaptations to the script or audience participation as this can be challenging for some audience members.
-
A quiet break-out area will be available for those who need to take a break from the show.
-
There will be a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where patrons can feel comfortable during the performance and enter or exit the theatre during the performance, with the assistance of the front-of-house team.
