“I have always been a lover of Stephen Sondheim, both his music and his lyrics.  Into the Woods (which was first staged on Broadway in 1987 and which won three Tony Awards) has been a musical  that has been at the back of my mind to bring to the Jersey Stage for sometime.  It was a toss up this year whether to go with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum or Into the Woods and the coin came down to ITW.

The show brings to musical life Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and other well known fairy tale characters.  Interwoven with these classic tales is the story of the Baker and his Wife whose longing for a child is thwarted by the Witch next door.  Act 1 tells the stories of all these characters  held together by the Narrator and in true fairytale  fashion everyone ends up happily ever after.

Or do they?  Well you will have to wait for Act 2 to find out.

A marvellous rap number from the Witch, songs that will make you laugh and others that will bring tears to your eyes.  It is Sondheim ably assisted by Lapine at their best.

We have a great cast and I am looking forward to the start of rehearsals and bringing this show to life.”
